Case: Kostya, selecting preparatory school Wellesley in England, entering Harrow School in England
When Kostya was living in Moscow, his father tried unsuccessfully for years to get him interested in chess. Kostya obediently attended chess classes twice a week, however his enthusiasm for the game never grew.
When Kostya entered an English preparatory school called Wellesly House, he joined the chess club. The club quickly realised Kostya’s talents for the game and sent him to the regional competitions and then onto the English Chess Championship for children. This motivated Kostya to improve and develop his skills, and he even began asking his father to buy computer training programs and books on chess.
After Wellesly School Kostya, as well as 21 other classmates, went to Harrow school. Here he became head of the chess club at the age of 16.
